        His neice Jean says that he courted a young lady before enlisting in the army but she
left him when he was discharged, wounded.
4 Oct 1915   Enlisted   Joined the Royal Army Medical Corps.

2 April 1918   Discharged   served 2 years 181 days - reason for discharge: Sickness!!
(actually wounded and blinded in one eye, partially sighted in the other
and paralysed to one side of his face) believed to be at the Somme

1918-1931       Activities uncertain but we know he was a circus animal attendant during some of
this period.
15 Nov 1931       He and his mother were living in Peacehaven, East Sussex
        At this time he became a member of St. Dunstan's - for men and women blinded
on war service. (Known to them as "Tiger" Martin - presumably from his circus days)
