ALLAN & DOROTHY'S VISIT TO GUÉDELON

Second Page

26th September 2015

Guédelon, France

Deep in the forests of northern Burgundy, in a once disused quarry a team of master-builders are building a C13th castle from scratch. Quarrymen, stonemasons, woodcutters, carpenter-joiners, blacksmiths, tile makers, carters and rope makers are working together to revive heritage craft skills and shed light on the world of medieval construction.

Making colours from plants and minerals for dyeing cloth and decorating the walls.

Are these are cuddly baa lambs, NO just food and wool

The Spinning and Weaving Cottage and the spinning wheel

Clay makes pots, vessels, roof tiles and many other things.

With this old cart wheel I will show how easy it is to make a potters wheel

The tiles need to be shaped and moulded

then stacked for drying

before being taken to the kiln for baking

to be stored ready for use

All these photos remain the property of Allan and Dorothy Martin
